Employees are already moving into the Fountain Valley based Hyundai Motors U.S. Headquarters. Clearly visible from the 405 Freeway, this sleek and modern 6-story museum-like building designed by Gensler is expected to be completed by the end of February.
Gensler Design, together with Snyder Langston broke ground on this over $220 million structure on November 26th 2011. The 555,000 square ft. headquarter is
truly an architectural and engineering masterpiece. There were times during the construction of this magnificent building when there would be up to 500 people working in one day. This seismically designed building is built on a structural pedestal foundation with over 600 precast piles descending 70-80 feet below the surface. The focal point of the building is its impressive two-story high entrance, which leads to an open-to-the sky public courtyard in the building’s center, supported by cantilevers and V trestles extending up all 6 floors. With floating translucent glass floors and a glass curtain wall system to maximize the light and views this ergonomic building is truly one of a kind. There are two 4-story, 135 feet high atria on the North and South side of the building, designed to bring together departments, levels, generations and cultures.
There are 230 private offices and 1300 work stations with accessible daylight and views. Hyundai’s vision and commitment to the employee workplace is evident with each floor having 4
open collaborative lounges on each corner, allowing employees to meet and talk away from the work stations. There is a full commercial kitchen and it is rumored that the 250 capacity cafeteria that will be operated by “Patina”. Adjacent to the cafeteria is a roof garden with trees, benches and outdoor seating, all irrigated with recycled water.
The adjacent 1500 space parking structure is complete and will be filling up with cars soon as all the employees are expected to be moved in by the end of February 2014.
