The Winery Newport Beach is located on the landmark site that was the former home of the The Villa Nova Restaurant. After a 20-year run as owner Andy Crean sold the premium property along Mariner’s Mile in an auction that came down to a nail-biting bidding war in the final minutes. In the end, Newport Beach resident Mike Moshayedi, who owns the nearby Joe’s Crab Shack property, submitted the final and winning bid for $6 million. Much to the joy and excitement of The Winery partners JC Clow, William Lewis and Chef Yvon Goetz, on 3/26/13 Moshayedi signed the lease and The Winery Newport Beach would soon be a reality. Designed by award-winning Richard McCormack Design of Orange County, The Winery is a breathtaking 10,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant with scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and the Newport Marina. Complete with a 700-square-foot 2nd floor outdoor dining patio overlooking the marina with two outdoor fireplaces and state-of-the-art heating system and waterproof awnings for year-round use. In just over one year the remodel and construction of the restaurant was completed by a local well known contractor ITX Construction of Orange County. ITX was also responsible for Charlie Palmer’s, ANQI, Fleming’s, Mozza, and R&D Café, to name a few. Upon entering The Winery one is immediately awed by the 2-story wall of wine lockers on your left and the wall to your right is inset with Fossil Limestone imported from the Caribbean. The state-of-the-art two-story temperature-controlled glass wine cellar requires the use of a library ladder to access the 6000 bottles that will eventually be stored there. As a good will gesture the Winery plans to offer the use of the some wine lockers to their clients. The overall ambiance is very sophisticated, with warm colors, dim lights and a view from virtually every seat in the main dining room. The floors are a beautiful mixture of textured carpets, ceramic wood, and inlays of rose colored marble imported from Spain. But the most stunning and unique feature are the countertops of the bars! The countertops are made of sliced agate and fossils from Madagascar and were fabricated by master masons in Israel. The agates are illuminated from lights beneath the bar and the effect is absolutely exquisite. There was no expense spared on one of the most important areas of any restaurant and according to one of the investors the cost of these one of a kind bars tops was over $100,000. The restaurant will feature a team of eight certified Sommeliers, including a Level 3 Sommelier. Chef Yvon Goetz’ came over from the first Winery in Tustin and has created a menu that will feature many of his signature dishes, but also predominantly feature more fresh Hawaiian seafood and other ‘ocean-to-table’ items. The restaurant’s first-floor dining areas will be able to seat 150 guests while the second floor dining area can accommodate 110 seated guests (200 standing guests for a cocktail-style event). There are also two private dining rooms with state-of-the-art audio/visual equipment. The Sonoma Room, with views of the marina, will be able to accommodate up to 56 guests; the Napa Room will accommodate up to 24 guests and will feature an indoor fireplace. The soon to be completed second-story cigar patio overlooks the marina and will have plush sofas, large flat-screen televisions, a dual-sided fireplace and heaters. Three private docks will allow guests the opportunity to arrive via the Marina. The Winery Restaurant Newport Beach is open for dinner service only seven days a week. Stop by to see this beautiful restaurant and dine on the same delicious food that the Winery in Tustin has been famous for in Orange County! Read more at https://www.thewineryrestaurant.net]]>
