Smart & Final extra has finally opened in Corona Del Mar
The Smart & Final grocery chain purchased the store in an auction last November from the Haggen supermarket chain who struggled after buying 146 Albertsons, Vons, Pavilions and Safeway grocery stores. In September, 2015 Haggens filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after less than 1 year in operation. City of Commerce-based Smart & Final entered into an agreement to acquire the Haggen store leases and related assets for $56 million in cash. Smart & Final operates 270 stores nationwide.
After being closed for nearly four months, Smart & Final extra opened its doors by hosting an open house yesterday serving freshly made sushi, rotisserie chicken sliders, wine tasting and appetizer. The store has a large selection of organic produce, fresh seafood, and various meats.
To the surprise of many local residents Smart & Final extra is very much like a gourmet grocery store without the high-prices.
