What Does DBE & WBE Stand For?
DBE stands for Disadvantaged Business Enterprise. WBE stands for Woman-owned Business Enterprise. These are programs that are created by various government agencies, providing more opportunities contractually for disadvantaged people. What this means is that certain industries and agencies are required by law to do a percentage of their businesses with these DBE certified companies. This ensures that those businesses are getting their fair share of opportunities, paving the way for a more even playing field for all companies.
While we are both DBE and WBE certified, there are other similar certifications that also exist for Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) and Person with Disabilities Business Enterprises (PBE). According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, “African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Asian-Pacific and Subcontinent Asian Americans, and women are presumed to be socially and economically disadvantaged.
