The Cities of Irvine, Ontario, and Mission Viejo was home to four of the fastest-selling Southern California new communities in 2018, according RCLCO.
Every year since 1994, RCLCO has conducted a national survey identifying the top-selling Master Planned Communities through a rigorous search of high-performing communities in each state. RCLCO has pioneered real estate market intelligence since the 1960s, and continues to be at the cutting edge of innovation and knowledge today.
Ranked in the Top 25 in the nation these major Southern California “master-planned” new-home projects include:
1. Irvine Ranch (by Irvine Co.)
2. Ontario Ranch (by Brookfield, Lennar, Lewis and Stratham);
3. Rancho Mission Viejo (by Rancho Mission Viejo LLC)
4. The Great Park Neighborhoods (by Five Point Communities) in Irvine.
Here’s how the sales trends and rankings in 2018 compared for these local project, according to the RCLCO Report.
Irvine Ranch: 1,160 Sales – No. 5 nationally
Ontario Ranch: 1,005 Sales – No. 6 nationally
Rancho Mission Viejo: 623 Sales- No. 11 nationally
Great Park Neighborhoods: 480 Sales- No. 20 nationally
Additionally, RCLCO ranked the new Sundance project in Beaumont by Pardee Homes No. 41 nationally for 2018 with 347 sales last year.
It’s just not the health of the local housing market that causes sales activity and the resulting rankings to ebb and flow, though 2018 was a challenging year for many builders. The number of homes available to sell is also a key factor.
Take Baker Ranch in Lake Forest by Toll Bros. and Shea Homes. It went unranked in 2018, a year after it was ranked as the nation’s 17th-best seller from RCLCO. Why the switch? The community is nearly completely built out, so sales dwindled last year.
Overall the master planned communities in Southern California saw positive growth in 2018.
