Corona del Mar New Pocket Park Dedication
The City of Newport Beach created a “pocket park” on a 1,300-square-foot parcel of land donated by the Cox family that is located along East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar. The pocket park features terraced, drought-tolerant landscaping, retaining walls, bench seating, and a walkway. The project budget, including design and construction, was $113,976.
The former site consisted of a sloped vacant lawn owned by Mrs. Myrtle Cox.
Through the generosity of Mrs. Cox the property was donated to the City of Newport Beach for the creation of the “Pocket” Park.
The City of Newport Beach held a brief dedication ceremony on December 1st 2015 to acknowledge the Cox family. The dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by over 20 people including Mayor Edward Selich, several City Council Members, local residents, City staff members and David Webb, the director of Public Works for the City of Newport Beach. The Son of the now deceased Myrtle Cox. cut the ribbon and officially opened the newest and the smallest park in the City of Newport Beach.
The pocket park is located at 3140 East Coast Highway in Corona del Mar near the Larkspur Avenue intersection, adjacent to Hobie Surf Shop.
