Plaza Corona del Mar – New Development in

Corona del Mar

The vacant lot next to Gallo’s Deli is finally going to be developed. Magdi Hanna has owned the land on Pacific Coast Hwy since 1995 and also owns Gallo’s Deli which has been an icon in the city or Corona del Mar for over 40 years. Well known for their colossal freshly “sliced to order” sub sandwiches which are also served at two other locations in Anaheim Hills and Belmont Shores.

The land has been vacant for many years, with the exception of seasonal Christmas tree lots and pumpkin patches. Soon after purchasing the land Hanna had originally wanted to build an upscale designer car spa, however his ideas were rejected by the homeowners in the area. The community and the city planners are now very receptive to Hanna’s new project and Planning Commission gave its stamp of approval on Jan. 3, 2015.  The development called Plaza Corona del Mar will include a new two story office building with a 1300 square-foot ft. store front space for Gallo’s Deli. Adjacent to the office building there will be six detached luxury townhomes designed by architect Marcello E. Lische of Irvine. The homes will all be three stories with subterranean private garages and an elevator. Each unit will have three bedrooms. The smallest will be 1,800 square feet, and the largest will be 2,600 square feet. The three-level units will have entries on the ground floor, kitchens, dining and living areas on the second floor and third-levels with master suites. All the units will have views – some with ocean views, others with Buck Gully open space views and peek-a-boo ocean views.

Hanna anticipates breaking ground on these upscale townhomes and office building as soon as spring 2015 and are expected to be completed by early spring 2016. Gallo’s will remain open during construction. For more information on these projects call (949) 723-3000.
